In a move that sent shockwaves through the dozen remaining 49ers fans, Kyle Shanahan has resigned as head coach of San Francisco and has decided to join Sean McVay in LA as the new offensive coordinator.

“Sean has always been like a father to me,” Shanahan, 44, said of McVay, 38. “I’m excited to finally join an outstanding franchise.”

Asked for comment, Niners GM John Lynch responded by assuring fans that they will continue to live in the past. “Joe Montana. Jerry Rice,” he repeatedly said to reporters.

Asked if McVay would retain play-calling duties, Shanahan blurted out, “Run the rock, kill the clock.” An increasingly tired McVay allowed the silence to reenter the room before replying, “Yeah.”

Despite the setback in coaching, Puka Nacua’s Rams will look to improve upon a successful '23 campaign. They open the season week 1 against the Cardinals.
